A type of Chinese hand fan that only has one side and is mostly semicircular (not square nor round). It was designed to be gently rotated in the hand to achieve a breeze while minimizing excess movement, and was mainly popular in the Qin and Han Dynasties. Depending on the user, it can be weaved from silk and gauze (which gives it a semi-transparent looks) or bamboo.
Its predecessor is a short-handled bamboo fan known as the Bian Mian (便面). For the sake of tagging, they’re considered the same.
