British battlecruiser, originally intended merely an improved Queen Mary class (herself a half-sister of the Lion class), so many alterations were made during the design phase that she ended up as a class of her own. Contain a much better turret layout and heavier secondary battery, being specifically armed with eight 13.5-inch Mk V(H) guns in four twin turrets, twelve 6-inch Mk VII guns in casemate mounts along her sides, four 21-inch torpedo tubes, and a number of AA-guns, had a 9-inch thick armored belt over her machinery spaces, and was capable of reaching a top speed of 29 knots. According to legend (per Conway's all the World's Fighting Ships 1906-1921, pg 33), it is her that formed the basis of the Kongou design.
Served during World War I and saw action at the Battle of Dogger Bank, Battle of Jutland, and Second Battle of Heligoland Bight, before ultimately being scrapped in 1932 due to further restrictions from the London Naval Treaty.
