A Japanese festival held on March 3rd. Platforms covered with a red carpet (hinadan) are used to display a set of ornamental dolls (hina ningyou) representing the Emperor, Empress, attendants, and musicians in traditional court dress of the Heian period. Hina arare and hishimochi are eaten during this festival.
