Gurkha are various group of elite soldiers derived from warrior tribes from Nepal and some parts of Northeast India.

Known for their bravery, loyalty to their master and the use of the Kukri, the Gurkha were hired by the British after the Anglo-Nepalese War(1 November 1814 – 4 March 1816) after the former were impressed by the Gurkha's skills during the war. Notably being one of the factors that the British choose to keep Nepal independent during the colonial era in exchange for the Gurkha's service under the British.

Today, the Gurkhas still continue serving as elite soldiers in the British Army, Indian Army, Brunei Army and Nepalese army while also serving as a Special police force in Singapore.
