He breaks down in tears and further reveals to Armin Arlert that he doesn't want Mikasa to move on or forget about him after his impending death, desperately saying "I want her to remember me for life, at least for 10 years after I die!" despite the fact he has never reciprocated her romantic yearning for him for the entire manga before then.
