An extra fuel tank mounted externally to the body of its vehicle. Most commonly seen on aircraft, where they are popularly known as "drop tanks" for their ability to be jettisoned to to allow to aircraft to maneuver freely, though not all external tanks can actually be "dropped" in this manner.
