An ornate lighting fixture that hangs from a ceiling.
Early chandeliers used multiple candles for light, but in modern times these have been replaced with electric lamps. Some chandeliers have arrays of crystal prisms to scatter light throughout a room. Due to their size and the amount of light they produce, chandeliers are usually installed as focal points in large rooms such as dining rooms, lounges, or staircases.
Not to be confused with hanging lights, which are of simple design and only have one or two lamps each, and are often used in kitchens and restaurants.
