The bodhran (technically, bodhrán) is a small drum, customarily played one-handed with a striking implement called a tipper, and with the drummer's free hand inside the drum to control tension on the drumhead. Of Irish origin, it has become popular in the Celtic music scenes of Scotland and Atlantic Canada as well.
