The performance variant of BMW's 3 Series lineup, first introduced during the E30 generation in 1986. The car was primarily sold as a coupe until 2014, with sedan variants available for the E36 and E90 generations. From 2014, the M3 is mainly sold as a sedan, with the coupe and convertible versions rebranded into the M4. In 2020, BMW added a wagon variant to the M3.
A customized version of the E46 M3 GT-R racecar starred as the cover car in the original Need for Speed: Most Wanted, and is considered the most recognizable vehicle from the series with return appearances in many of the succeeding titles.
