Blockbuster was an American chain store franchise founded in 1985 by David Cook. Blockbuster main business model was allowing customers to rent or buy videocassette tapes of popular movies and tv shows which later included video games and DVDs.

While once a popular brand during 1980s and 1990s which later expanded international to other countries like Canada, Britain and Australia, Blockbuster fell out of favor to consumers beginning the early 2000s when newcomers like Netflix and Redbox allowed customers to buy DVDs through mail-order and vending machines respectively without any late fees and later the rise of internet streaming. As a result, Blockbuster began losing money before declaring bankruptcy in 2014 and closing all of their stores. As of 2025, there is currently one Blockbuster store that remains open in Bend, Oregon which has become a popular tourist attraction as the last Blockbuster in the world.
