A character from Dark Souls I. He is first encountered in the area Sen's Fortress trapped inside a cage. After being saved by the player at this location and later on, he serves as the merchant of advanced sorceries in the game. His nickname big hat originates from the gigantic hat that he wears.
One of the most famous sorcerers of the Vinheim Dragon School, he left Vinheim to further study the magic of Seath The Scaleless.His research however, as discovered by the player at the end of his questline, causes his demise, as it makes him lose his mind turn hollow. He is credited with being the creator of the soul spear and homing soulmass sorceries, and is one of the greatest figures of sorcery within the Dark Souls lore.
