A 1960s sci-fi manga illustrated by Jiro Kuwata and written by Kazumasa Hirai that ran from 1963 to 1966 on Weekly Shonen Jump magazine and later adapted to an anime in 1964.
The series follow Hachiro Azuma, a police detective who is shot by criminals but is save by the mysterious scientist, Dr. Tani who transfers his mind into a new android body. Now known as 8Man(8th Man in the English dub), Azuma fights crime while hiding the truth of his new android body from his secretary and love interest, Sachiko Yokogawa.
A four part OVA sequel by J.C. Staff, titled 8 Man After was released in 1993. Taking place years after the original series, the OVA follows Hazama Itsuru, the new 8Man as he and Sachiko stop cyborg criminals terrorizing the city. Unlike the original, the sequel is dark, edgier and more Cyberpunk.
