棘 棘条

Spines are stiff, pointed processes or appendages on an animal, as the quills of a porcupine, or the sharp, bony rays in the fin of a fish.

• For the sharp-pointed outgrowth of plants, use thorns.
• Not to be confused with spine, the backbone of humans and other vertebrates.
