Contrary to what her calm, gentle and sweet demeanor may indicate, Shiiko Sugai is actually a very skilled veteran mobile suit combat pilot who fought for the Earth Federation during The One Year War.
Shiiko used to be called "The Witch" and became a feared unicum (a MS ace), who scored over 100 kills against Zeon during the war. In particular, she got her nickname for her unearthly maneuvers and the mysterious 'stigmata' marks she left on her kills (both secretly from use of a thin, nearly invisible grappling wire).
She does not believe in the existence of Newtypes, but she herself is proven to be one. Shiiko is married and has a little son who looks a lot like her.
Shiiko dies in a competitive battle while using the new Gelgoog against the Red Gundam piloted by Shuji Ito, driven by homicidal rage and desire for vengeance (as the Red Gundam caused the death of her best friend and MAV wingman during The One Year War).
In her final moments she shares a Newtype Flash connection with Shuji and sees him and also her little son.
