    ハクトウワシ 白頭鷲

The Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) is an eagle found in North America. As an adult they feature dark brown feathers with white head and tail feathers. Their beaks, feet, and irises are bright yellow. The bald eagle has a body length of 70–102 cm (28–40 in) and typical wingspan between 1.8 and 2.3 m (5 ft 11 in and 7 ft 7 in). Their mass is normally between 3 and 6.3 kg (6.6 and 13.9 lb). Males' average 4.1 kg (9.0 lb) and females average 5.6 kg (12 lb).

The word "bald" in their name is derived from an older meaning referring to the white of their head and tail. Their species name is Latinized Ancient Greek for "white" and "head".

The Bald Eagle has cultural importance to the United States and Native Americans. It is the national bird and symbol of the United States of America. It is featured on the Great Seal of the United States that was adopted by the Continental Congress in 1782. For various Native American tribes it holds spiritual and religious significance, and its feathers are central to many of their religious and spiritual customs.
