    slug_cat

The playable character species of the game Rain World.

Salient qualities are smooth, monochromatic skin with solid eyes, a thick tail, and a capability to carry and use tools such as spears.

The base game has three different playable slugcats:

    • Survivor (white) - The baseline experience. Survivor has no special attributes and average stats.
    • Monk (yellow) - Slightly decreases the difficulty level. The game is otherwise the same.
    • Hunter (pink) - Greatly increases the difficulty. The game is also changed significantly, with both the player's start position and the end goal being different. Hunter's campaign chronologically takes place before Survivor's and Monk's.

The "Downpour" DLC adds five more playable slugcats, all with unique campaigns, plus one secret slugcat. The game world also undergoes changes between campaigns, sometimes slightly, sometimes tremendously.

    • Artificer (maroon) - Pyrotechnic master, hates Scavengers. Takes place sometime before Hunter.
    • Gourmand (orange) - A more... rotund slugcat than most. Takes place between Hunter and Survivor.
    • Spearmaster (purple, with white spots on tail) - Can produce spears on demand. Has no mouth. Takes place far before any other campaign in the timeline
    • Rivulet (light blue, with axolotl-like appendages) - Runs and swims extremely fast. They'll need it. Takes place a significant amount of time after Survivor's campaign
    • Saint (green) - Nonviolent, vegetarian, and more than what they seem. Takes place far in the future, with a radically altered environment
    • Inv (black) - Secret slugcat. More or less a joke, as their campaign contains various fourth-wall breaking elements and the difficulty is ramped to absurd levels. On the plus side, they start with a singularity bomb. Their campaign ends with a dating simulator.

The upcoming (March 2025) DLC "The Watcher" adds the titular slugcat:

    • Watcher (navy blue) - unknown
