The Super Dimension Fortress Macross II: Lovers Again (超時空要塞マクロスII Lovers Again, "Chō Ji-kū Yō-sai Ma-ku-ro-su" II - Lovers Again?), also known as Super Dimensional Fortress Macross II or simply Macross II, is the first animated sequel to The Super Dimension Fortress Macross to feature a new cast of characters. This japanesemecha anime OVA was released in May 21, 1992.
This series was produced by Big West only and is notable because it's the only Macross production that was developed without Studio Nue's and Kawamori Shouji's (the original series creator and mecha designer) involvement.
Mikimoto Haruhiko designed the new characters while Okuda Atsushi, Akutsu Junichi, Fujita Kazumi and Oohata Kouichi designed the mecha.
The story takes place in the year 2092, eighty years after the events depicted in the anime film The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love?
Originally promoted as a canon sequel to the Macross: Do You Remember Love? theatrical movie, Macross II has since been relegated by Studio Nue as taking place in an alternate continuity and is no longer considered part of the original series canon. However, many books, toys, video games and other officially sponsored products related to the series are still being produced.
