Originally known by his real name "Thrain", Capitano hailed from Khaenri'ah where he served as a commander. He survived the Cataclysm and was cursed with immortality by Ronova, the Shade of Death.

Like the other Fatui Harbingers, he is named after a stock character in the Italian theater genre Commedia dell'arte.
