A revised and much improved redesign of the original RX-78-2 Gundammobile suit developed by Franklin Bidan for the Earth Federation Titans in U.C. 0087. It has better, more advanced and powerful weaponry, a panoramic 360° monitor, linear seats, movable frame technology as well as higher speed and maneuverability, but with standard armor.
While in testing under the Titans, the sinister looking dark blue colored prototypes were stolen by Quattro Bajeena and the AEUG with the help of Kamille Bidan, who went on to pilot the sole surviving unit before switching to his own designed mobile suit, the Zeta Gundam. The Mk. II was later repainted white while at the service of the AEUG (to evoke the iconic look of the legendary original Gundam from The One Year War).
