This is part of a collection of images the artist Ogitsune posted on Pivix. The other images were rough black and white sketches.

Anyhow an interesting look at some of the details on Maverick's F-14A Striker unit, which seems to have gained an extra pair of missile launch rails since it's first appearance in post #790946. Also, Maverick herself seems to have become a blonde.

I wonder what the guy in the blue vest is trying to tell her...

He's a blue shirt, responsible for moving aircraft (or strikers), operating the carrier's elevators, and messenger duties. Maybe in the SW universe they also help witches get into their strikers?

Looking at the image I think he's likely relaying a message of some sort to Maverick. He also doesn't look overly happy with her. :)

"I doubt you need a bayonet while dogfighting..." is a pretty good guess.

Nonsense. She went to Sakamoto school of stabbing the giant flying enemy with your pointy bits.

I think the second rail you're talking about is the mounts for the Phoenix? The one on the left sticking up next to the guy in the background? Those were there in the first picture, but they just had a phoenix mounted, and was moved further back... don't know why this one is sticking up like that.

I'm referring to the fact that the wing glove pylons seem to have sprouted an extra pair of rails on their sides -the guy in the blue vest has his hand on one. That would increase the number of missiles that can be carried by two.

Personally I like the change, the F-14 Striker units seemed a bit underarmed in previous depictions.

    ahh.

Hard for me to tell at this resolution. By the post ---946 it looks like they have a sparrow mounted on the bottom of the glove pylon. Having two mounts on the gloves would be true to reality. The glove pylons can take a sparrow and a sidewinder simultaneously.

On the right next to the landing gear door. The bottom can hold a sparrow and there is another mount sticking 90 degree off of it that can hold a sidewinder.

Bayonets make it easier for people to follow your tracers.

The side rails on the glove pylons are reflective of real life, but they didn't appear in previous depictions of Maverick's Striker. Hence my feeling that that it feels less underarmed now. Particularly if those pylon stations have enough clearance to mount an extra pair of Pheonixes (though a mixed load of two pheonixes, two sparrows, and two sidewinders would be nice and versatile).

I can't help having this play in the background when I view this image: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCTJmXrgsFg
