Not just you, I noticed it as well. My guess is that the artist found out he was running out of space between Eru and the table while he was drawing the newspaper, so he made it narrow so it would fit.

It could also be a remark about how real life news papers are in fact getting progressively smaller, as fewer and fewer people actually read it, any more. Sucks for the people, like me, who still do...
