April 19th
The day Ren, Morgana, Ann, and Ryuji entered Kamoshida's Castle in search of his Treasure. Taking the challenge at an even pace along with good planning by "Joker" and "Mona," the group managed to map out the route to Kamoshida's Treasure within a single expedition. After that long afternoon the crew went their separate ways back home to rest and recover, ready to take the next step in their plan to dethrone their tyrannical teacher.
April 20th
Midway through the last class of the day, Ren felt his phone vibrate. Looking up, he made sure to subtly take it out of his pocket while the teacher was distracted with his lecture and noticed that Ann, who sat just in front of him by the windows, had deftly taken hers out as well. It must be Ryuji.
"Hey, so what's the plan?"
"You're asking this now?" Ann replied. Ren could hear a sigh escape her lips as she typed.
"We'll meet at the rooftop later and talk." Patience was key, Ren knew. Though to be honest with himself, his heart raced with excitement in anticipation for the next step of their plan. He was sure Ryuji felt the same.
"Alright, I get it. But damn, class is even more boring than usual because of yesterday." Ren and Ryuji were on the same wavelength for sure.
"Focus, Ryuji. We can't afford to get distracted, exams are just around the corner." Ann slouched back in her seat, her belly lightly pressed against the desk. Before he could even respond, she continued with "If I can do this, you can too." Ren couldn't help but smirk; Ann just won.
"Right, right, you're super pregnant, I get it. I have no excuses."
"Thank you."
The conversation ended there, so both Ren and Ann put their phones away and class continued as it always did. After what felt like an agonizing eternity, the bell rang and class was dismissed. Grabbing the bag beside her chair, Ann let out a slight groan as she rose from her seat. She stretched her arms out, happy to get out of that cramped chair, then turned to Ren. Still in his seat, he looked up at her and found that she glowed with barely restrained excitement. Nervous, for sure, but nonetheless eager to put Kamoshida in his place. Shooting a mischievous grin towards Ren, she put one hand on her belly and the other to support her back, then waddled past him and made her way out of the classroom. Ren watched her as she went, thinking back to when she spilled everything to him at the restaurant. It hasn't been too long since then, but he could see the subtle change in her demeanor as the impossible dream of freedom quickly became a reality. That feeling of powerlessness turned into an inner strength she probably didn't believe she had, and it changed the confidence in which she carried herself through the day.
Ren packed his supplies and Morgana hopped from the desk drawer and into his bag when nobody was looking. He had been quiet all day like usual, only chiming in with a whisper on occasion to help with a difficult question during class.
Opening the rooftop door, Ren saw Ryuji and Ann beneath the overhang just outside the door he came through. It had been raining all day and didn't look like it would stop anytime soon. Ann was sitting atop one of the spare desks against the wall and leaned back against it, with her legs crossed. One hand held a partially eaten chocolate bar up to her face, and the other was gently rubbing her swollen bump. It was partially exposed due to Ann unzipping her uniform, giving her chest and belly some breathing room, though her shirt could only reach down to her popped bellybutton. Placed on top of her spherical middle was an untouched sandwich, and Ann was still chewing on that last bite of chocolate as she turned to look at Ren step out onto the roof, still too distracted by her activities to notice him show up.
Ryuji was crouched by the fence on the left, and was checking his phone before looking over towards the group as Ren showed up.
"Hey, Ren- Ann, really?" He seemed to just notice what she was doing, his eyes glancing between the candy and her sandwich. Ryuji remained crouched in his corner, but turned to face her.
"Mmmmgh, what?" She had to wait a moment to swallow her food before replying back to him with a questioning look on her face. The chocolate was still held up, she was ready and eager to take another bite.
"I made that sandwich for ya, and you went straight for the candy." He sighed, though he wasn't really surprised. "Who even eats the chocolate first, anyway? You're supposed to save that for afterwards, like a dessert, ya know?"
"I... look, I was craving it." Ann said, looking a bit flustered. Ryuji just smiled and rolled his eyes, she was always enthusiastic for sweets even before she used her pregnancy as an excuse. She continued, saying "It's not like I was going to ignore it or anything, I'm eating for three here. Isn't that right?" she patted her bulging belly, evoking a kick from one of the babies that nudged the sandwich laying on it. Smiling softly, Ann muttered "Yeah, yeah." and took another bite from the bar.
By this point Ren had already taken a spot just next to the door and stood there, leaning his back against it. Morgana's head poked out from the bag Ren had set on the ground, then leaped out from it.
"So, how is everyone?" he inquired, looking around at the others. Before anyone could reply he turned his attention to Ann, saying "You okay, Lady Ann?" She was busy eating the chocolate again so she gave the cat a thumbs-up and winked.
"A word of advice," Morgana started, glaring at Ryuji. "Try not to do anything that would cause trouble, the last thing we need is for you to get caught on your phone in class."
"Hey- What!? Dude, I was as stealthy as hell. Nobody notices me." Ryuji was clearly insulted by the cat thinking he'd be clumsy like that. "Besides, why're you targeting me? I'm not the only one. But... I guess that doesn't matter much either since none of you have been caught yet."
"I'm a ninja." Ren stated, adjusting his glasses.
"And people avoid looking at me during class anyway, so it's fine. Nobody wants to acknowledge this." she pointed to her expanded gut, then poked it. "So I'm basically invisible until it's time to leave. Pretty handy, actually. I can sneak a snack in and nobody notices."
"Well... if you insist, then fine. Just keep it on the down-low." Morgana believed them, but was still cautious. He looked around, making sure he had everyone's attention. "So, here's what we do..."
April 21st
Ann arrived at Shujin a bit earlier than she normally does, eager to get the day over with and curious to see what Ryuji had in mind for the calling card Morgana said would be necessary to open Kamoshida's Treasure for the taking. As she headed toward the first floor of the main building, Ann noticed a crowd of people gathered around the message boards.
"I heard it was already posted by the time everyone got here this morning." she could hear one of the students say as she approached the boards. Plastered across them were bright red notes, so Ann began to read one of the calling cards to herself. After a moment, she looked away from the card with a sigh.
"Wow..." She couldn't find the words to describe how she felt upon reading it. Cringe, maybe? If there was any silver lining to this, the card seemed to at least be doing what it was meant to. Looking down the hall she noticed Ren and Ryuji standing there, the latter having a smug expression on his face.
"I get what you were trying to say, but it sounded like an idiot trying too hard to be taken seriously." Ann said as she walked up to the two.
"The logo could use some work, too." Morgana said from the bag slung over Ren's shoulder.
"Okay, come on, th-that's not true at all!" Ryuji went from smug to insulted in an instant, clearly not expecting this kind of response from the amazing work he clearly did. Before he could continue with an explanation for why his calling card was at worst an 8 out of 10, a familiar voice cut through the crowd's chatter and silenced it.
"Who's responsible for this!?" Kamoshida was pissed, looking from student to student with an accusing glare. Everyone he looked at cowered under the weight of his scrutiny, then he noticed Ann, Ren, and Ryuji standing apart from the crowd down the hallway. Ryuji and Ren looked at him defiantly. Ann still had her back turned from the boards so she turned her head enough to give Kamoshida a murderous look as he walked up to the three of them. Seeing their chance to escape, the group of students hanging around the area quickly disappeared from sight to avoid the wrath of their gym teacher.
"Was it you?" Kamoshida was furious as he looked between the three of them. His fists were at his sides, clenched with rage.
"What if it was?" Ren cooly replied, which only served to piss off the man even more.
"You piece of shit..." the adult muttered, before regaining his composure and saying "Eh, whatever. You'll be expelled soon enough anyway." As he turned to walk away, his and Ann's eyes met. The intensity in her gaze caused him to look away with anger as he turned the corner of the hall and out of sight.
After a moment of silence passed, she said in a low and threatening voice "I'm going to make him suffer."
