Interesting trivia: In the commentary for Alien, Ridley Scott mentioned that the idea of the facehugger was actually inspired by a bug pinpointing a grub beneath the bark and parasitizing it with its egg.
While the larva and the cicada here are probably one and the same, it's the just image that made me think of that particular commentary...
