You can do it :P I was terrible on EoSD. I started dying on Cirno, lost a couple of lives to Meiling, then usually ALL the lives on Voile and/or Patchouli. Very rarely I reached Sakuya, just to be stabbed.
What I did was head to shrinemaiden.org and ask for help in the appropriate board. People directed me to replays that I watched and the help I got from these (and pratice, pratice, pratice) finally allowed me to win the game. First with max lives, then a bit later with the "correct" starting 3 lives.
Today I can (usually, goofups still happen :P) win with any character/shoot in EoSD. I'm still stuck on Extra and can only finish the other games on EEJI MODO, (which is funny because people say that EoSD is a hard game on the series) but you get the idea. Pratice a lot, and you'll end up winning.
