Real life Marines don't have giant robots, which makes having long hair less dangerous in combat.

If I had to choose between a world with short-haired female Marines, and a world with freakin BETA, I'll gladly pay the women's barber bills.

They are allowed to have long hair, there is no reg on hair length for females. While in uniform, however, their hair cannot touch or go below the collar, hence why females have short hair or wear it in a bun.
