noone ever brought up poison's gender/sex until the snes version, and noone started bringing up issues about hitting a girl in the original arcade version, and there was no such marquee or bulletin board that said, "what you're hitting is not a girl, so please don't sue us!" most people who even pass on this folklore never played the original arcade game, and if it hadn't even been for the snes version, noone would have even really paid attention.

Folklore? So you deny that the english instruction manual changed Poison's gender? The whole point of changing her gender was fear of being sued or called out. No one actually called capcom out on it at all. Capcom (American branch) just got scared.

excuse me, instruction manual to WHAT PLATFORM? it wasn't the snes version, it wasn't the arcade version, it was not the sega cd version, perhaps you are referring to the manual of the ps2/xbox capcom classics collection, which was ...over 15 years after the game's original release? back in 1989 and 1991, we didn't have no stinkin' manual saying anything! i'm not denying that the ps2 manual says anything, but again, that's over 15 years later.
