You know in hindsight it really would have made more sense of it was Amuro in the final fight.
Rather than trying to beat him (Because really who in that timeline/reality could've stood up to him in a fight at that point?) they would have to stall and try and convince him.
It didn't even have to be OG Amuro possibly a variant that noticed what Alternate Lalah was doing was causing more harm than good and came to end it the only way he knew how at this point.

In a way HE WAS. The GQuuuuuux was developed using ooparts (mecha remains) from another universe that contained Amuro's spirit. That is why the GQuuuuuux is seen to have arms in its cockpit that hugged Machu. Also in the end when its "mouth" opens and glows it resembled Amuro's helmet.

I got that as well but what I meant was it was more impacting had it been an Amuro variant.
Like Lalah who kept traveling and creating alternate realities this one was one who was traveling to prune the ones Lalah has made since his was affected by it or his the remnant of one of her attempts.
