Except the fact that it is also recognized that America is also used to refer to the United States (Merriam-webster and Oxford dictionaries support as such).

Anyways it would be more common to refer to the continents as the "Americas" for both, and "North America" and "South America" individually. There is no "America" continent, because "America" is a landmass consisting of two continents.

Some countries consider America to be a single continent, without any North or South division.
