Well, war is really is a Hell for some people like civillians, who often trapped in a crossfire and get killed without even know what hit'em.

It is not about the meaning the message tries to deliver, but rather the gratuitous English used (suppose to be "hell", not "a hell")

"a hell" is grammatically acceptable, too. Its just not used nearly as often as "war is hell".
