We learn from the introduction that while rewinding time again, Homura landed in a universe where Kamijou didn't have his hand injured. Thus, Sayaka's relationship with him can progress normally. Hitomi and Madoka do not come to school without explanation one day (see episode 4) but she cannot pay attention as she is busy preparing for her first real date with Kyousuke. This scene shows them as they are walking back towards the city, noticing a strange storm brewing on the horizon.
