Looks like we're gonna be seeing something seriously dangerous on Remi, too. Trying to one-up Flan or something?

I suspect being in the barrier has a sort of boosting effect to Reimu's abilities outside of it.

Yukari's Conveniently Ambigious Barrier strikes again! Seriously, there won't be much difference if they will turn it off.

And we will get magical wrestling, so i guess it's win-win situation.

Allow me to take a crack at this.
Either Reimu is that strong, or Reimu has the ability to temporarly create a barrier in an object when she's made contact with it, and then destroys that barrier, causing massive internal damage.

now that it's translated, she seems to have tested something off of how Sanae took Flan's tackles and not die. The end result: Reimu learning a powerful new trick.

If you read/watch Kekkashi, these kind of tricks are only natural for barrier users.

Oh great reveal something like that, next thing u know that kappa will tell another kappa then that one will do the same until every kappa knows... then they'll have to tell someone else, lets say anyone else that happens to be in the torny?

    ...Or even Dr. Yukka D.D.S.

Translated, but I STILL dont get it. Is the barrier actually a strength balancer, and with Flandre, Yugi, Yuuka, Suika, etc. and others in there, it automatically boosted other's (reimu) powers to match?

possibly. But this would create a plot hole in the last match, where Shiki was far stronger than the immortal duo. This would have also been the case if Yuugi had fought Koakuma. You can bet Yuugi would have easily overpowered the little devil.

This likely has something to do with Reimu's own barrier manipulation, or Yukari simply doing her job as Gensokyo's troll.

I suppose. the barrier does seem to stop danmaku, but not much else, so maybe Reimu is channeling the barrier's energies back into her for HULK SMASH?

Note exactly as Youmu and Reisen in their match were desperately trying not to get hit by Remilia's thrashing as one hit would knock them out. Also Ran and Chen struggled to make Yuugi budge.

Now we know why Reimu is the ultimate character in Gensokyo. Not just she's the main character and not she has the smallest hit points.

    It's her extremely sharp intuition.

Its kind of funny that this comic where Reimu effortlessly figures out a new trick comes right after one where Marisa is having to do a potentially risky procedure just to stay competitive.

It actually plays to their ethics though. Reimu is naturally talented to the point of absurdity where she didn't even need to train to perfect her barrier powers, while Marisa has to work her ass of, sometimes doing dangerous things, to gain the power Reimu can use naturally.

I think Reimu and Remilia are going to win their match still... just not as easily as before. It doesn't help that Marisa and Nitori took this too lightly at first (similar mistake Ran and Chen made)

Really? One would figure asking Mima, then Yuuka(round aboutly) then Hiriji for training would show they were taking this DEAD SERIOUS. Nitori even had an emotional break when she discussed her limits with Mima. Marisa is even taking a gamble having the power of her mini-herikko implanted in her to even hope to match the absurd power Reimu just haxed up.

    A small segue.

Reading this and Kiku Hitomoji's tournament comic made me realize how hard it is to write this sort of stories for Touhou. Because at the end of the day Touhou doesn't have any real villains, it doesn't matter who wins or loses: people will complain regardless, depending on who their favourite is.

Marisa wanted to be overpowered, as she's on-par with reimu right now. She doesnt know Reimu just BUDDHIST PALM'D that wall. Hell I'm pretty sure thats the power Marisa was going for. It seems all their doing is evening it, unbeknowest to them.

She's only "on par" with Reimu magically. Physically is another matter since Marisa doesn't know the spells Hiriji does, and unlike Reimu and Sanae, she can't deploy barriers within her body to act as armor or strength enhancers.

Also, if Marisa wins, we won't be able to have Reimu vs. Sanae, and does anyone really think we aren't headed that way at some point?

Thats because any sort of "Villian" we did get was either a "well intentioned Extremists"(like Hijiri) or "An innocent drunk on power"(Utsuho or Suika). Remilia actually arguebly counts as one of the more villianous characters but at the end of the day, she quietly went down. A true villianious character would go down with his ship than surrender.

As far as any actual evil intentions go, another villianous character we can say is Yumemi for trying to experiment on Reimu which would diffenetly not have been nice. However she was also sent packing. Even then, Yumemi wasnt really trying to have any evil intentions, she just wanted to prove the existance of magic to her scientific world. Marisa probably would have been better but Yumemi didn't know what magic was anyway, hence the experiments.

I was referring to early on before they realized what they were in for, and thus all the discussions.

There's the matter of Reimu having some physical skill to back up her spiritual power even before this while Marisa is far more reliant on her magic alone.

I think the poster meant villains in the comics. I mean Eiki and Komachi tried to be Heels, but Shiro more or less jobbed them out with really shitty writing. And In the other Tag comic, The only "antagonistic" character so far was Tenshi, but that was more nihilistic boredom.

The real villains in this so far are the immortals and Yukari and co's manipulations.

Its kind of weird but so far Yuyuko has come off as the biggest bitch of the comic between the blatant cheating she pulled off in her one match and the dickishness with which she treated Satori and co.

She is associated with Yukari; who intentionally left out the underground, Tenshi and possibly Suika (Yukari let her get away with her stunt as to have a counter to Yuugi). Yukari might not have approved of Yuyuko's stunts... but she certainly didn't disapprove. Yukari's early jerking around of Okuu and Yuyuko's stunt would end up having Yuugi be particularly motivated, surprising Suika. Their politic subplot appears to be dying down as of now, leaving the Immortals to take center stage as the villains.

No, I meant villains in the series proper. With "defeat means friendship" firmly in place, there aren't really any set antagonists when it comes down to it.

Well the main thing they've been guilty of doing has been undone due to Yuugi and Orin's efforts.

I suspect that the politic subplot may come back during Sanae/Suwako's next match. I think they're the only team left that's directly connected to one of the organizers.

Suika and Sakuya are loosely associated with them (Yukari arranged some training for Sakuya), and there's some suspicion that the Immortals are aligned with them as well.
