Nazrin sounds like she has more in common with say Youmu or Reisen (rather diligent characters with a master that's somewhat flaky)

I don't think it's fair to call Meiling a slacker since it's more the fanons fault than anything that people believe that she doesn't do her job

If we're talking about fanons, what about Sho's clutziness? What with the stir caused by Byakuren's reveal and sealing, Sho having to hide her true nature as a youkai, the many passing years, and finding herself in Gensokyo, maybe the Pagoda was lost in the burning of a temple or stolen.

As is usually the case, there is a some basis in cannon. At one point in one article or another Aya wonders if Meiling was sleeping on the job, which she denied, and both Inaba Inaba and SSiB feature characters slipping past her while she is on guard duty. In true fanon style, this got blown up and amplified beyond any and all reason.

Clutz Shou is entirely fanon as far as I know though.
