Meiling is a Chinese girl working as a gatekeeper at the Scarlet Devil Mansion. She has the ability to control qi.

As the gatekeeper, Meiling meets the most humans out of all the dwellers of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. People will often come by to have a friendly chat with her, and it seems many have forgotten that Meiling is actually a youkai.

Meiling is skilled in martial arts, so she would likely not be able to put up much of a fight against youkai specialized in magic. However, as a youkai herself, she has no blind spots when battling humans. Meiling does not have any specific weaknesses, which is probably why she is the gatekeeper at the Scarlet Devil Mansion.

Meiling can fall asleep standing. While this might seem amazing to most, in Sakuya’s eyes, this is just slacking off at work―no more, no less. When Meiling senses an approaching presence, she wakes up and shouts, “I’m not sleeping!” Then, she notices Marisa standing behind Sakuya―Marisa must have sneaked in without letting Meiling sense her qi! That is quite the praiseworthy feat, so Meiling praises Marisa, only to end up with silver knives raining down on her…

Many people come to Meiling to test their strength. They engage in one-on-one battles with a set time limit. Remilia must enjoy her front-row view of the battles taking place right before her front gate.
