She threw a rubberband-loaded fishing harpoon.
So when the recoil happens, she'd be speared by it. Granted, this is practically impossible to do IRL because there's no way to 'throw' the harpoon that far without the rubberbanding.

Even with the rubber banding the force being applied to pull it back is on the handle end, so when it does come back it'd be handle first, not point first.
