i think DMC4 is a bit before 2, just like the anime. 2 has to be the last of part of the series, aside from SMTN. (i'm shocked it's being considered canon).

I'm not sure where DMC4 fits in however.
DMC 4 fits after the SMT Nocturne, i figure. It has lady and Trish.
According to 4's load screen, 2 is indeed canon and comes after 4 (the tense implies Lucia is still waiting for Dante). But I wouldn't know if Nocturne or 2 happens first.
And Black Frosts clothes should be purple. But I guess they were trying to keep with the red?
Atlus remade Nocturne with Raidou instead of Dante. Because he still has a gun and sword, but its their own character, so they didn't need to ask permission.
