It might just be for GAINAX original girls. All of the girls featured were from anime first, without being adapted from a manga.

This Ugly Yet Beautiful World was originally created as part of GAINAX's 20th Anniversary, then later adapted into a manga. Petite Princess Yucie was based on the videogame series Princess Maker, which was created by GAINAX in the '90s.
This pic is missing two important title: Wings of Honneamise (1987), GAINAX's first ever official anime; and Otaku no Video (1991), which contains a look into the beginnings of GAINAX themselves.
