The Soviet-Japanese War. Started on 9 August, 1945 when the Soviets stormed Manchuria alongside Mongolian forces. It was so quick the Japanese didn't have time to react, and at the same time, Nagasaki got nuked by the U.S.

Some say this, alongside the bombs, forced Emperor Hirohito to surrender - to the U.S., because no one wanted a Soviet occupation.
