Oh, don't start with that argument. People said the same thing when Aya grew ears. This isn't going to end well.

I have to say I prefer the old hair.

Old hair is cuter. New hair is generic.

I prefer the old hair. Plain, but also makes sense for her personality. Besides the new hair makes her look more boyish and she's already short and flatchested.

In Touhou, you do not focus on potential story developments in a sequel, you focus on a character's change in hairstyle.

Although I thought haircuts, in Japan, also had some symbolic meanings as well so maybe its a hint.

This, people. It's just a hairstyle change. Please, for the love of whatever deity you pray to, don't start a flame war or make a "We hate new hair!" club because ZUN decided to change his character a little.

IMO, more boyish = better. I, for one, welcome our new half-ghost overlady.

this is Touhou, as long as there are silly hats and hair accessories of unusual shapes, then all is right with the world.

Youmu's supposed to have a serious personality but also be childish at the same time, right? I think the old haircut represents that rather well.

I don't really mind, though I gotta say I do prefer the old one. But a change in a hairstyle (or any part of her design for that matter) is actually a good thing to happen to a Touhou character because that brings even more sources of ideas for derivative works. I quite like Marisa in that sense because her dress has been changing ever since Mountain of Faith (including Wild and Horned Hermit), giving her a huge lot of variety.

The thing hairstyles is, you can go get a haircut: you can get cut in a new style and even go back to an old style. it's not a undo able change.

personally I like the older style, but newer style makes her look more mature.

Youmu's hair style in Ten Desires seems to me more like bed hair than a new hair style, as if she didn't waste time combing her hair before putting the ribbon in and setting out. The game does take place in the early morning hours, after all, and in all likelihood Youmu felt it more important to get rid of the spirit-like non-ghosts in the Netherworld than to fix her hair all fancy-like as if she was going to the Human Village to buy a week's worth of food for Yuyuko's lunch.
