The point is that it is going to be a 12 episode series and so you naturally build up to the final boss by the end of the 11th episode, then initiate and resolve the final fight upon the 12th episode...

I think I finally figured out why Sayaka is my favorite magic girl, not just from Madoka Magica, but from the whole genre.

It's because she's the only one I can think of who wears a cape...and capes and awesome!
