It wouldn't have caught my attention unless this was in it. I do object to the fact that the plot has developed to this. However take into account that the way this has progressed until now which makes up for an interesting and sometimes unexpected storyline to something that would be more or less mundane.
Though I did like this little side-story, if they brought back Mami in this story, it would have felt like a weaker narrative
