The price, paid by many battleships in their so often disappointing careers, of being expensive and irreplaceable, versus being cheap and expendable.

That reminds me of a bit of my own Kancolle headcanon, inspired by Kiyoshimo's desire to become a battleship. I think Yamato privately has something like the reverse ambition. She remembers her own performance at Samar, in contrast to what Sam, Johnston, and their companions managed to achieve, and thus longs for nothing less than the chance someday to really fight like a destroyer.
