  • Winter Solstice

    Finished on December 16, 2017

This artwork was made for a charity artbook project: Revel.
The project themed around different holidays celebrated around the world.
    I choose Chinese Winter Solstice(Festival).
The Chinese place more importance to the Winter Solstice than to Christmas as this was part of our tradition that has been celebrated by many of our ancestors for years. During this day it is important to gather with your family, relatives and or family friends/friends to enjoy a massive feast together. We would eat an abundant of different food but traditionally we would make and have dumplings as well as glutinous rice balls (Tangyuan). People back then would believe that eating dumplings during this day would protect them from getting frostbites on their ears simply because dumplings have the appearance of a human's ear. The round glutinous rice balls and the round bowl that the balls were served in would symbolize family and being together.
