I cant see a reason why you would listen music from your portable when you have that kind of hardware around but ok...

I'd say it depends on how much of an Audiophile you are. I myself have always been more of a headphone guy and honestly, i find loud speakers to be "less" pleasing to my ears. As far as video gaming and anime goes, sound itself is a package deal with the art. So for me, the only reason i can see in having a "Decked out" stereo system would be for actual Music junkies that actually sit in a candle lit room fully enjoying the music.

Well, generally, something like that will have a headphone jack along with higher quality processing hardware compared to a portable CD player. I think that's what he meant.
But, people being lazy, you could just drag the portable up to you if you wanted to change disks; not so for the set.
