Well like I keep saying for this long. Sailors should just stop picking on Kung Fu Masters. They never win.

Badass as it is, that's normally a very bad place to place your arm in a fight. To my knowledge, there is NO SITUATION where putting your arm against your back like that would be helpful (in a normal fight, of course).

I think she's just being fancy. Sorta like Bruce Lee in "Return of the Dragon" (I think that's the movie), where he puts that guy in a head lock and kicks him. Looks good, but it's really a disadvantage, considering that the guy could've easily just picked Bruce up and slammed him or any sort of counter in that position. ...of course, like Meiling up there, we're talking about Bruce Lee.

Long story, short... she's get the advantage of being the hero, lol. That and 500 year old Youkai that's being doing martial arts, assumingly, all her life, haha.

The one situation I've seen that calls for it is if you want to keep a weapon in hand in tight quarters, that way it doesn't get tangled up on anything.

The rotation of the shoulders when you place your hand back allows for more power and longer reach on the lead hand. The hand goes to the hip and not the head because although it sacrifices defense the follow up hit with that hand will be stronger.

In a normal 1 vs 1 fight, NO ONE can even try to take that hand or your back when you in that pose. Unless, of course, against multiple opponent.

You standing side way with one of your arm extend out to the enemy(like the splendid pose Meiling do here), unlike what you think, your back will consider expose if you place your hand at the front like you said. If the enemy going for your back, a simple half circle spin and rotate the elbow of the arm at your back will help you face them at front again. And with the rotation force you can even do a back hand strike for a counter.

At this scene Meiling simply twist her body and do a punch with the rotation force from her body so you can't see the real power of the stance yet. And yes, I know what I'm talking about, I do practice martial art.
