IRL, ifrit is a race/tribe of genies from Arabian/Islamic folklore. They are sometimes associated with fire, though not always. Genies and demons are made with the same substances (fire), but not all genies are demons.

From what I'm seeing it looks like some demons wanted Mokou in Hell, so they decided to try to bypass the Hourai Elixir's effects and drag her down there personally. Hellfire tends to go through fire resistance, so that plus the numbers game turned out to be a bit too much for Mokou.

Too bad for those demons, a certain someone else ran into her down there while doing what he does best and went on a little bonus mission to rescue her. All that's left to wonder is what Dante will get in return for this. Some fire-oriented gun-type weapon? I'd say a new DT, but he already has Ifrit for a fire-type so...
