You wanna know how I lost this eye? Well, I'll tell you. My sister was a drinker, a fiend, and one night she gets laid off from her job at the pet store. She comes home, downs a few bottles of sake, and turns her eyes on the family pets. Sad, adorable little things. She loved them, once, but as she weighs the knife in her hand she feels powerful, angry, vengeful. I come back from school to see her in a pool of blood, cats and crows and all sorts of pets at her side. I try to scream, but all she hears from me is this puny little whine. She looks to me, dress covered in blood, knife still glimmering in her hand, and she whispers barely loud enough for me to hear... "You weren't supposed to see this." Before I know what's going on she's pinned me to the wall, a sickly-sweet smile hanging on her face. She's playing with the knife now, twirling it in her hand with no interest in her own safety. She catches herself a few times, but it's nothing to her but another few blots on the dress. She stops. She grabs my eye, yanks it towards her. Her other hand brings the knife closer, stops it inches from stabbing it clean through. The eye cries. I didn't even know it could do that. And she doesn't care. She's about to laugh. She's got that twisted grin on, that grin that never shifts even when she's hurting or heartbroken. I see her grip the knife, and the last thing I hear before the pain hits me is another desperate whisper. "Out of sight, out of mind."
