    Bow with chains exist actually, they were used for training. Can't really defend the halberd though :p

    Yup, it's totally going to work.

    With enough (possibly unimaginable) tension, a chain could create much more catastrophic kinetic energy compared to an elastic band. What matters is how long would the chain last.
