I have read a version where the story was twisted around before. Alice ended up being trapped in Wonderland unable to do anything but try to live her life there. It's possible she could've become Queen, but since Wonderland was a dream, her "self" on the outside never grew older and could possibly be the "Alice" we know, while the Queen of Hearts is her older "self". Just making inferences based on that.
