I don't know about the others, but the guy that ended up winning play a pretty active military role during the infamous Suharto's dictatorship (2nd president of Indonesia, also his father in law( and has a history of kidnapping activists and massacre against East Timor, along with fearmongering such as about how other nations have studies that say Indonesia will no longer exist in 2030 which is later revealed to be a scifi novel.

After becoming president, he also keep scaring people about some vague "small kings" that prevent him from preventing corruptions (still unnamed even after being confronted multiple time, and what exactly are the prevented acts are unknown), and he widen military's authority with one of the impact is to allow them to more easily become a government officials while still being an active military personnel.

Basically, breaking up over politics isn't that bad of an idea.
