To be fair, Lambda kinda *is* Nu and all. Even when she was "emotionless" since Nu's soul was put into Lambda, we never knew the true Lambda because she was already dead =(
Lambda had her own memories, which Kokonoe surpressed and tried to erase. She had her own identity before and after Kokonoe restored her. Nu basically just popped up and took over Lambda's body for her own uses, killing her.
I much prefer Lambda's persona to Nu's. Just like how i prefer KOS-MOS to Mary.

Uh, if I remember the story correctly, Lambda was already dead and that Kokonoe suppressed Nu's memories of Ragna. I'd have to check the story again but I'm at least 90% sure that's how it went. I suppose if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. But still.
Last thing I'm giant black bar say, from Blazblue wiki (I know can be changed by anyone but I would hope they would partly be somewhat right)

But really, what does it matter I suppose, I just thought that they said Lambda was already dead since they said she was a failed experiment in the beginning of the first game
she was "alive" or dying until kokonoe scavenged her erased her mind form her own body and implanted Nu's mind, then you use a Amnesic Nu in Lambda body.
The real Lambda we got to see in the lab died, probably never knowing freedom.
Nu was given her body, and had her own memories erased. But then Nu dreamed the original Lambda's memories. That's why Kokonoe told her to "calm down, those aren't your memories!"
Aside from that dream-flashback, we never got to see the real Lambda, who died a slave and a labrat. Poor girl.
